'Dahi puri,' 'egg bhurji' among the worst-rated Indian street foods
Besides a lot of things, India also garners attention for its street food scene which only gets more diverse with each city you explore. However, a recent list has listed the worst-rated Indian street foods. And topping the list is the popular dahi puri. Yes, you read that right! The list has been compiled by Taste Atlas, a travel guide for traditional cuisines.
'Sev' is the 'second-worst,' followed by 'dabeli'
The second-worst snack was sev, a hot snack from Madhya Pradesh made with gram flour and spices. This is followed by Gujarat's delicacy dabeli. From the famous Mumbai cuisine, the Bombay Sandwich ranks fourth on this list. Other delicacies like egg bhurji, dahi vada, and sabudana vada, were ranked at the fifth, sixth, and seventh positions respectively.
'Bonda' ranks at the bottom of the list
The list surprisingly includes some of the all-time favorite street food choices. Papri chaat, a common dish from north India, was eighth on the list. While Punjab's gobi paratha ranked ninth, the bite-sized fried snack bonda was last in the ranking. Unbelievable, right? Often made with potatoes, bonda is a favorite snack in central, western, and southern India.
The foods are ranked based on audience ranking
Taste Atlas includes actual recipes, reviews from food critics, and academic studies on well-liked ingredients and dishes. The audience's ratings are the key source for TasteAtlas food rankings. Only 1,773 of the 2,508 ratings collected up to August 17 were deemed valid by Taste Atlas, which was used to determine the rankings. The platform differentiated between actual users and bots.
When 'vada pav' was recognized globally
Earlier this year, popular Indian street food vada pav gained worldwide recognition after Taste Atlas ranked it as the world's 13th-best sandwich with a rating of 4.4! "This iconic street food is said to have originated from a street vendor named Ashok Vaidya, who worked near the Dadar train station in the 1960s and 1970s," Taste Atlas stated.
