Kids are usually not able to explain the feeling of dehydration and this can lead to various health issues like increased fatigue, dry mouth, darker urine, and dizziness. They also tend to lose a high amount of water from their skin surface while sweating as compared to adults. Therefore, encourage your child to stay hydrated during the summers with these tips.

    Make them eat water-rich foods

Instead of allowing your little ones to consume oily snacks and rich food items, serve them some summer-friendly foods and drinks to keep them cool and hydrated. Load their plates with red and juicy watermelon wedges, delicious berries, apples, oranges, pineapples, and cucumbers. You can also make popsicles with fruit juices that will not only provide them with hydration but also vitamins and antioxidants.

    Water breaks are important

During summer, evenings are also hot, which is the time when kids go out to play. Kids can get lost in their games and forget to rehydrate themselves. Make sure your children drink at least a glass of water before they head out to play or perform any physical activity. Make it mandatory for them to take water breaks every 30 minutes.

Make water fun for your kids

You can easily make regular drinking water interesting for your kids by adding fruits and veggies to it. Infuse their water with fruits like lemons, cucumbers, watermelon, strawberries, and kiwis. Believe us, they will look forward to drinking water this way. Freeze some freshly squeezed fruit juice to make fruity ice cubes. Add these cubes to a glass of lemonade to jazz it up.

    Give them electrolyte solutions

Sometimes just water is not enough for your kids if they are spending more time playing and exercising in the scorching heat. Excess heat and sweat can lead to electrolyte loss from the body and cause dehydration. Prepare electrolyte drinks to restore hydration and keep them energetic and healthy. These are easily available in the market. You can also try some electrolyte-rich drinks.

Buy reusable water bottles for your toddler

Toddlers are a difficult category when it comes to drinking water. Buy a fun reusable water bottle for your toddler to make them drink their fluids on their own. You might have to give two to three different bottles a try before understanding which one works for your kid. Buy one with a secure lid that is spill-proof to reduce your headache as well.
