Five Yoga asanas to help you deal with thyroid problems
  • Thyroid disorders have today become quite common.

Basically, thyroid occurs when the thyroid gland (a small gland in your throat) is either unable to produce enough thyroid hormones, or releases excessive hormones.

However, don't worry- yoga can help. Although, it might be unable to cure the problem completely, it can be managed well.

Here are five Yoga poses for the same.

  • In this article
Sarvangasana (Shoulder stand): It improves blood flow, nourishes the thyroid Halasana (Plow pose): It stimulates thyroid glands Matsyasana (Fish pose): It enhances blood circulation in thyroid gland Ustrasana (Camel Pose): It also stimulates your thyroid gland Bhujangasana (Cobra pose): It helps improve thyroid functioning

Sarvangasana (Shoulder stand): It improves blood flow, nourishes the thyroid

Sarvangasana (Shoulder stand): It improves blood flow, nourishes the thyroid
  • Start by lying on your back, with knees slightly bent, and feet in the air.

Keep your hands flat on the floor, and use them to roll yourself on your upper back. You may bring your hands to your lower back for support and to keep yourself upright.

Slowly extend your legs toward the ceiling. Hold the position for 5-6 breaths. Relax, then repeat.

Halasana (Plow pose): It stimulates thyroid glands

Halasana (Plow pose): It stimulates thyroid glands
  • This pose will help stretch your neck, calm down the nervous system, and stimulate thyroid glands.

To perform this pose - start from the Shoulder stand position, bend your hips to bring your toes to the floor. Clasp your hands together and stretch out your forearms behind your back.

Hold the position for as long as is comfortable for you. Relax, and then repeat.

  • #3

Matsyasana (Fish pose): It enhances blood circulation in thyroid gland

Matsyasana (Fish pose): It enhances blood circulation in thyroid gland
  • This pose will make your back arch in a way that it increases blood circulation in the thyroid gland.

    How to perform?

Start by sitting straight with your legs crossed. Now, holding your toes, lean back, and stretch your head and neck. Try to touch the floor/mat with your head.

Hold for a couple of seconds, and then return to the initial position.

  • #4

Ustrasana (Camel Pose): It also stimulates your thyroid gland

Ustrasana (Camel Pose): It also stimulates your thyroid gland
  • The Ustrasana or the Camel pose helps improve blood flow, and stimulates your thyroid gland.

To perform this pose, sit on your knees so that your body remains straight, while your knees form a right angle. Bend your spine backwards and touch the heels of your feet using your hands.

Hold the position for a few seconds, then slowly return to the initial position.

  • #5

Bhujangasana (Cobra pose): It helps improve thyroid functioning

Bhujangasana (Cobra pose): It helps improve thyroid functioning
  • This pose is considered great for people suffering from thyroid problems, as your neck and throat region is stretched, thereby improving your thyroid functioning.

To perform it, lie down on your stomach with your hands under your shoulders. Next, press down with your hands, and lift your upper body backwards, as far as possible.

Hold the position for five breaths. Relax, and then repeat.
