Pakistan-trained suicide-bomber planning high-profile assassinations in India nabbed in Mumbai
A 32-year-old was arrested from a Mumbai suburb for suspected links to a Pakistan-based terrorist organization. Sleuths said that Faisal Hasan Mirza was apparently assigned the task of assassinating ministers and film stars, besides causing explosions in several populated areas of India. He had also received training in Karachi for three months to make explosives and undergone preparation to be a suicide bomber.
Mirza's association with LeT strengthened due to Dubai, Sharjah visit
During interrogation, Mirza revealed that he was in touch with LeT members; contact strengthened when he went to Sharjah and Dubai. Meanwhile, he came in touch with banned terrorist organization Indian Mujahideen's co-founder Amir Reza Khan, who sent him to an ISI-backed LeT training camp. Mirza slowly became Khan's trusted accomplice and was sent back from Pakistan after getting wholesome training on weapons, firearms.
Mirza to get interrogated by ATS till May 21
Mirza returned to Mumbai two months ago and was waiting for orders to carry out the operation. Kolkata STF while trailing Khan, stumbled upon Mirza and notified Maharashtra ATS, since he was based in Jogeshwari. He was arrested on May 11 and has been remanded to custody till May 21. ATS chief, additional director general Atul Kulkarni confirmed the development without commenting any further.
A glimpse into the Indian Mujahideen's activities
Indian Mujahideen carried out a 2002 bombing on US-Consulate in Kolkata, killing five and injuring 20. In 2001, they kidnapped Khadim Shoes owner PR Burman, who was released against Rs. 4cr. IM was formed in 1999-2000 by Aftab Ansari and Kolkata-based Asif Khan, Amir's brother.
