Alpesh Thakor: News

Born on November 7, 1975, in Gujarat, Alpesh Thakor is a firebrand politician who never shied away from controversies. Belonging to a Koli family in Ahmedabad, Alpesh’s early political activity mainly revolved around the Thakor community and their rights. His first venture in social activism was the Kshatriya Thakor Sena that was founded in 2011. Through this organization, Alpesh aimed to rid the community and Gujarat in general of alcohol addiction. His rise to fame, however, began in 2015 when he raised his voice against the Patidar agitation for recognition as OBC started by Hardik Patel. The OBC, SC, ST Ekta Manch, or OSS Ekta Manch founded by Alpesh to fight for the rights of backward communities stood against the Patidar demands. Alpesh soon became one of the youngest faces of Gujarat politics along with Hardik Patel and Jignesh Mevani. In 2017, he joined the Indian National Congress. In the assembly elections held the same year, he contested and won from Radhanpur. However, 2019 saw him leaving the party and joining their rivals BJP. In the ensuing by-polls, Alpesh lost the constituency by a slim margin.
