Kejriwal shares picture of 'broom chasing Swastika', gets slammed

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was slammed by numerous Twitter users after he shared an image which showed a broom chasing a Swastika. The broom is the symbol of Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party and Swastika holds importance in the Hindu religion. His tone-deaf photo didn't sit well with many on Twitter who opined that Kejriwal has been taken over by "Hinduphobia". Here's what happened.

In bid to slam Center, Kejriwal landed in trouble

While sharing the problematic image on Twitter, Kejriwal wrote: "Someone sent this". The message Kejriwal hoped to send across with the photo was quite clear. He was comparing the current regime to Hitler's era in Germany while suggesting that AAP will "save" everyone from "dictatorship". However, in his quest to take on the ruling BJP, Kejriwal ended up offending many.

Kejriwal didn't put enough thought before posting the image

Kejriwal is berating Hindus and Hinduism, tweeted Manoj Tiwari

One of the first ones to slam Kejriwal was Manoj Tiwari, the chief of the Delhi BJP unit. Tiwari tweeted that Hindus have lived peacefully and never believed in "Prachar or Prasaar." He added, "It hurts to see power hungry @ArvindKejriwal berating Hindus nd Hinduism when it suits his vote calculations. (sic)" The singer-turned-politician also asked Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi to take action.

Notably, Twitter users weren't amused with Kejriwal

Apart from Tiwari, several others slammed Kejriwal's crude attempt at humor. User @malay_mohanty tweeted: "What is this.. Is it a humble initiative to disturb the Brotherhood of Society...??" Whereas, @KesariyaRishi wrote: "This moronic turd needs to be reduced to Zero seats this election. He is a worst than a pig broiling in mud." Separately, BJP's Tajinder Bagga asked Kejriwal to not insult Hindu symbols.

Another Twitter user suggested Kejriwal to read

Dear @ArvindKejriwal this is quite disgusting. The Swastika is a sacred symbol in Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism. The Nazis stole this and disfigured it in one of the vilest acts of cultural desecration. You are doing the same. If nothing read Wikipedia: https://t.co/l3GPOhd1qQ https://t.co/NFRChsUKHE

Kejriwal likened PM Modi to Hitler earlier as well

This is not the first time that Kejriwal has equated the situation in India under BJP's rule with Germany under Hitler. During the opposition rally in West Bengal in January, Kejriwal claimed PM Narendra Modi will change the Constitution after winning in 2019. "They (Modi-Shah) will do the same thing that Adolf Hitler had done in Germany when he came to power," he said.

Earlier, Kejriwal mocked PM Modi's 'Main Bhi Chowkidar' campaign

Earlier on Wednesday, Kejriwal took a dig at PM Modi's "Main Bhi Chowkidar" campaign. "If you want to make your children chowkidars, vote for Modi Ji. But if you want that your children get a good education and become doctors, engineers and lawyers, vote for the Aam Aadmi Party," Kejriwal said. He claimed that AAP has good and honest people.
