What's the story

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has approved the establishment of 4,660 new auxiliary polling stations in West Bengal. This decision was taken to enhance voter convenience for the upcoming assembly elections. With this addition, the total number of polling stations in the state has increased to 85,379, PTI reported. The ECI also cleared the relocation of 321 existing polling stations as part of this initiative.

Guidelines stressed

ECI issues guidelines for setting up polling stations

The ECI has underscored the importance of following its existing guidelines while setting up these auxiliary polling stations. The commission also stressed the need for effective communication with voters about any changes in polling station locations. It must be ensured without fail that all the voters of that polling station housed in that location are informed individually by the authorities concerned, a letter from ECI stated.

Election schedule

WB assembly elections to be conducted in 2 phases

The West Bengal assembly elections will be conducted in two phases. The first phase of voting will take place on April 23, followed by the second phase on April 29. The counting of votes is scheduled for May 4. The ECI's decision to set up auxiliary polling stations and relocate others is part of its efforts to ensure the smooth conduct of these elections.
