In light of the Ayodhya hearing getting deferred, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), on Friday, vowed to launch an agitation if the Supreme Court did not take the Hindu community's sentiments into account. The threat of the agitation was made at the end of a three-day executive body meet of the RSS at the Thane district. Here are the details.

Looking back: Recent developments in the title dispute case

On October 29, the Supreme Court said that the date for hearing the title dispute of Ayodhya will be decided in the first week of January 2019, thereby giving priority to other cases. In an earlier observation, the apex court, on September 27, noted that mosques are not essential for praying in Islam.

SC's decision 'insult' to the Hindu community, says RSS

Speaking to media at the end of the meet, RSS general secretary Bhaiyyaji Joshi said that the Supreme Court's decision to defer the hearing of the Ayodhya-Babri Masjid dispute, and not hear it on priority basis was an "insult" to Hindu sentiments. He added that the apex court's decision left the Hindu community in pain and anguish.

Hindus have been waiting for too long, says Joshi

"A legal sanction is required to pave way for the construction of the temple. The wait for the court's verdict has been too long. Since the matter was listed (for hearing) on October 29, we felt Hindus would get good news before Diwali," said the RSS general secretary.

Joshi says RSS is not putting pressure on the government

However, Joshi also said that the RSS is "not putting pressure" on the government, as it "respects" the law and the Constitution, and is thus considerate about the delay. "We are not putting pressure. But we will build consensus. We respect the law and the constitution which is why there has been a delay," said Joshi.
