Today-in-what-did-I-read: BJP leader claims Sita was a 'test-tube baby'

What's the story

Joining the long list of controversial statements made by Bharatiya Janata Party leaders, Dinesh Sharma, UP's Deputy Chief Minister, said Sita's birth proves that test-tube babies existed during the time of Ramayana since she was born from an earthen pot. He even said technology existed during Mahabharata time, something Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb had also claimed weeks ago. Brace yourselves, there's more.

Here are the 'genius' comments made by Sharma

Looking back

Sharma's obsession with epics: What he has said till now

At this point, none of Sharma's statements can really surprise us. Only recently, Sharma equated mythological character Narad Muni to Google. "Our Google started long time back. Narad Muni could reach anywhere and transfer a message from one place to another by saying 'Narayana' three times," he had said. Sharma said journalism started in Mahabharata as Sanjaya narrated the Kurukshetra-war to Dhritarashtra, while sitting in Hastinapur.

The statements

Sadly (and funnily), BJP leaders studied epics bit too well

At every chance they get, BJP leaders prove that epics are the only texts they read. Satyapal Singh, a junior minister in education cabinet said, 'mantras' codified laws before Newton. Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani had also likened Narad Muni to Google. Biplab Deb too made 'Internet existed during Mahabharata time' comment. In 2014, Narendra Modi said Lord Ganesha was a product of plastic surgery.

The warning

Apparently, Modi warned BJP-leaders to stop giving footage to media

In April this year, Narendra Modi warned BJP leaders against speaking out of their turns and courting controversy. He said after irresponsible statements, they can't blame media for criticizing them. But looks like the leaders didn't pay attention to their senior's words. Only if they did, we could have saved ourselves the trouble of wondering 'what are they smoking', after every comment.
