Firefox is getting an 'AI kill switch'—total control over AI features coming soon

Technology

Mozilla Firefox will roll out an "AI kill switch" in early 2026, letting users turn off all AI features for good.
The new CEO, Anthony Enzor-DeMeo, shared this update on Reddit after hearing user concerns about AI.
He reassured everyone that Firefox will always put user choice first—even when it comes to AI.

One toggle, 0 AI

With the "AI kill switch," you can remove every single AI tool in Firefox with a single option—no more pop-ups or reminders.
Jake Archibald from Mozilla confirmed the feature's name and purpose: once you flip the switch, all AI is gone for good.

How does this stack up against other browsers?

Unlike Chrome (which has no global off-switch for its AI), Firefox's new feature gives you a real opt-out.
Edge only offers partial controls, but Firefox is going all-in with a full shutdown option.
Expect to see the "AI kill switch" between January and March 2026.
