First supermoon of 2025 shines on October 7: Details here

Technology

Get ready for some sky magic—the first supermoon of 2025, known as the Harvest Moon, will light up the night on October 7.
It'll be at its brightest around 6:20pm GMT in the UK.
This is the first supermoon since November last year and kicks off a rare trio, with two more coming on November 5 and December 4.

Neil Young's classic song inspired the Harvest Moon's name

A supermoon happens when the full Moon swings closest to Earth, making it look extra big and bright—think cosmic selfie lighting!
The Harvest Moon is simply the full Moon nearest to the autumn equinox, traditionally giving farmers more light for late harvests.
Fun fact: this year's Harvest Moon is the latest one since 1987.
If you're in southern England or Wales, you'll have the clearest view; elsewhere might be a bit cloudy.
And yes, Neil Young fans—this moon shares its name with his classic song!
