Google Maps gets Gemini AI tools for interactive map creation

Technology

Google Maps announced new AI tools powered by Gemini on November 10, 2025.
Now, you can build interactive maps—like Street View tours or live weather maps—just by typing what you want.
There's also a styling agent to help brands or creators give their maps a unique look, and everything can be tweaked in Firebase Studio.

Contextual view shows info in lists, maps, or 3D visuals

The update brings Grounding Lite, which connects AI assistants directly with Google Maps data for more accurate answers.
Developers get easier access to Maps API details through the MCP server.
Plus, the new Contextual View feature shows info as lists, maps, or even 3D visuals when you ask things like "Where's the nearest grocery store?"

Voice-based navigation expands to more regions

Gemini AI now powers voice-based navigation on Google Maps on Android and iOS, with rollout expanding to more regions—think landmark-based directions and real-time traffic updates with just your voice.
Android and iOS users already have it; Android Auto is up next. In India, there are now alerts for incidents and speed limits in select areas too.
