Google News now turns articles into AI-powered podcasts
Google News just rolled out a cool new feature: it creates free, AI-generated, podcast-style audio briefings that read news articles aloud.
You'll find it under the new "Listen" tab in the app, right next to "Following" and "Newsstand."
Quick news recaps, podcast style
Each episode runs about 15 minutes and covers six different stories, with two AI hosts chatting through the headlines.
You can see which article is being discussed, check out the source's logo, and tap to read more.
Playback controls let you skip around or change speed, plus you can pick your favorite outlets for a feed that suits you.
Powered by Gemini models—with some unique perks
These podcast-style audio briefings use Google's latest Gemini AI models.
Google pays participating publishers as part of its commercial partnership program and keeps everything integrated within its app.
Just note: you can't ask follow-up questions like with NotebookLM—but for quick news on the go, this is a handy upgrade.
