What's the story

Google Photos has introduced a host of new artificial intelligence (AI) features, including the ability to edit objects and people in photos. The update also brings an "Ask" button for AI-powered answers about a photo or edit requests, as well as AI templates to create new images. The company is expanding its natural language search feature to over 100 countries and supporting more than 17 new languages.

Feature expansion

AI image model Nano Banana comes to Google Photos

The latest update brings a new personalized edits feature that identifies people from Google Photos's face groups. Users can now use the "Help me edit" option and type multiple commands for people in the photo. The company is also adding its popular AI image model, Nano Banana, to Google Photos. This will let users edit their photos in different styles such as a Renaissance portrait or cartoon strip.

User experience

AI templates and 'Ask' button

Google Photos is also getting AI templates to easily convert one photo into a specific format. The company said this feature will be available next week on Android under the Create tab in the US and India. Along with these updates, Google Photos is getting a slight design change with an Ask button that will serve as a starting point for different AI requests.

Global reach

Expanding natural language search to more countries

Last year, Google launched an AI-powered search feature for the Photos app in the US. Now, the company is expanding this capability to more than 100 countries including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, and South Africa. The feature will support over 17 new languages such as Arabic, Bengali, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish.
