Hacker claims he'll delete Zuckerberg's Facebook account: Details here

    What's the story

In a rather amusing development, a Taiwanese hacker has claimed that he would compromise and then delete the Facebook account of Mark Zuckerberg on September 30.

Chang Chi-yuan, who is a self-professed bug-bounty hunter, has promised to broadcast himself at 6:00 pm local time (3:30 pm IST).

If successful, this would be second break-in into the account of Facebook's founder.

    Here are the details.

    Details

Live streaming the hack of Facebook's founder

Chi-yuan announced his intentions to hack Zuckerberg's account by scheduling a Facebook live event from his own page, which has some 26,000 followers.

"Broadcasting the deletion of FB founder Zuck's account," the 23-year-old said in the post, without going into the details. "Scheduled to go live."

Facebook has not yet responded to the claims nor taken down Chi-yuan's account.

    Hacker's details

By the way, who is Chang Chi-yuan?

Chang is a 'minor celebrity' white hat hacker who has contributed to some bug bounty programs and discussed his exploits on Taiwanese talk shows.

His name is mentioned among Special contributors on Line Corp.'s bug bounty Hall of Fame. Plus, there are also reports that he once hacked into a local bus operator's system and bought tickets for just 1 Taiwanese dollar.

    Motive

Money seems to be his motivation

Though Chang has not revealed the motive behind his mission, his previous posts do indicate that his ultimate goal is earning money by exposing vulnerabilities.

"I don't want to be a proper hacker, and I don't even want to be a hacker at all," Chang said in the post. "I'm just bored and try to dabble so that I can earn some money."

    Second attack

This could be second attack on Zuckerberg's account

As Bloomberg points out security experts and ethical hackers routinely highlight security problems in the company's systems. But, doing something like that in real-time and live is pretty rare.

If Chang makes the hacking attempt and is successful, this would be the second hack of Zuckerberg's account. Some seven years ago, a hacker broke into his account and had shared a status.
