HPE and others launch Quantum Scaling Alliance to tackle supercomputers

Technology

HPE and seven other leading technology organizations just launched the Quantum Scaling Alliance. Their mission? To turn quantum supercomputers from lab experiments into real tools for industries like drug discovery and materials science.
The project is co-led by Nobel winner John Martinis (Qolab), with Dr. Masoud Mohseni (HPE Labs) overseeing the initiative as quantum system architect, aiming to make these powerful machines more affordable and useful.

Each member has a unique role in the process

This isn't just one company doing its own thing—each member brings something unique, from designing the building blocks of quantum computers (Qolab) to error correction (1QBit, Riverlane), control systems (Quantum Machines), chip manufacturing (Applied Materials) and chip design tools (Synopsys), integration with classic supercomputers (HPE), and benchmarking (University of Wisconsin).
By teaming up, they're using existing tech to build reliable quantum machines faster.

A collaborative approach to quantum computing

Unlike Google or IBM, who focus on their own custom projects, this alliance wants to scale things up for everyone—mixing quantum with traditional computing on a big scale.
The idea is to speed up progress so industries can actually use quantum power for real-world problems sooner rather than later.
