iPhones will soon let you connect with satellites

Technology

Apple is working on new satellite features for iPhones, so you'll be able to stay connected even when there's no cell service.
Think offline Apple Maps, sending messages (with photos!) from remote spots, and even apps that can tap into satellites thanks to a new developer API.

Globalstar is helping Apple with this project

These basic satellite features will be free, but some extras might cost a bit through your carrier.
Apple's also teaming up with Globalstar to upgrade their tech behind the scenes, aiming to make iPhones more reliable—especially in places where regular networks just don't reach.
