ISRO's 1st Gaganyaan mission to launch Vyommitra in December
ISRO is gearing up to launch Vyommitra, its AI-powered half-humanoid robot, on the Gaganyaan G-1 mission in December 2025.
This will be the first test flight of India's new spacecraft system—no humans onboard yet, just Vyommitra acting as a stand-in astronaut to check how everything works in real space conditions.
Vyommitra's role and upcoming missions
Vyommitra isn't just along for the ride—it'll monitor flight systems, keep an eye on air pressure and temperature, and even interact with life support tech.
Built to read displays and operate controls (and chat in Hindi or English), it's a key step before ISRO sends real astronauts up by early 2027.
After this mission, two more uncrewed flights are planned next year to make sure everything's ready for India's big leap into human spaceflight.
