ISRO's LVM3-M6 mission: BlueBird Block-2 satellite launched successfully

Technology

ISRO just pulled off a big one—on December 24, 2025, they launched the BlueBird Block-2 satellite into low Earth orbit, marking their heaviest payload yet at over 6,000kg.
The lift-off happened bright and early from Satish Dhawan Space Centre and sets a new bar for India's space ambitions.

Why does BlueBird Block-2 matter?

BlueBird Block-2 isn't just another satellite—it's the largest commercial communications satellite in LEO, with a massive 2,400sqft phased array.
It packs up to 10 times the bandwidth of its older sibling and can deliver up to 120Mbps speeds straight to regular smartphones—think faster streaming and smoother calls without any special gadgets.

What's in it for global connectivity?

This launch is also a win for AST SpaceMobile's dream of global coverage.
With this addition, their constellation is closer to offering seamless mobile service across the US (and beyond), thanks to thousands of coverage cells and partnerships with over 50 operators worldwide—all at a surprisingly affordable $46 million launch cost.
It's another step toward making space-powered internet more accessible for everyone.
