Leonids meteor shower lights up the sky November 16-17, 2025
Technology
Heads up, stargazers! The Leonids meteor shower peaks on the night of November 17-18.
Expect to see up to 10 meteors per hour if you're in a dark spot.
These meteors zip through the sky at around 71km per second, all thanks to debris from comet Tempel-Tuttle.
How and when to catch the show
You don't need any fancy gear—just find a spot away from city lights and look up between 3:00am and 8:00am local time on November 18.
The meteors will seem to come from the constellation Leo but can appear anywhere overhead.
A quick history lesson
Every 33 years or so, the Leonids can go wild with thousands of meteors an hour—the last big storm was in 2002.
For now, enjoy this year's quieter but still awesome display!
