LinkedIn has introduced a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature to its platform, aimed at simplifying the process of finding people. The innovative tool lets users search for individuals by simply describing them instead of using specific names, job titles, or companies. For instance, one could type "IIT Delhi alumni who work in entertainment marketing," or ask, "Who can help me understand the US work visa system?"

Rohan Rajiv, LinkedIn's Senior Director of Product Management, told The Verge that the platform will rank results according to potential connections and their relevance to your search. This is an extension of an earlier feature launched in May, which permitted users to look for job openings by describing their ideal career.

The AI-powered people search is now available for Premium users in the US. However, LinkedIn plans to roll out this feature to all users in the future. The introduction of this tool is part of LinkedIn's broader strategy to integrate AI into different parts of its platform, including the ad copies, content creation, personalized digests, and hiring assistance.

In its early tests, LinkedIn found that users have been leveraging this feature to find people who can assist them with job opportunities, business expansion, or career growth. Rajiv explained the new AI-powered people search is "designed to be the fastest path to the person who can help you the most."
