Locked out of X? Here's why
If you use X (yep, the app formerly known as Twitter) and didn't re-register your hardware security keys or passkeys by November 10, you will be locked out.
This only affects people using physical keys or passkeys for two-factor authentication (2FA), thanks to X's big switch from twitter.com to x.com.
Why the lockout?
Security keys are linked to the website they were set up on—so when X moved from twitter.com to x.com, old keys could no longer be used to access accounts after the deadline.
To get back in, users need to re-enroll their keys under x.com or switch to another 2FA method like an authenticator app (which weren't affected).
Account access requires re-registration
X says accounts will stay locked until you re-register your key or pick a new 2FA option.
This is all part of X's plan to leave Twitter's old systems behind and bring everything under the new x.com umbrella.
