Apparently, Apple MacBook Pro exploded during 'normal use'
  • In a major albeit very rare case, an Apple MacBook Pro has exploded during what the owner claims was 'normal use'.

The owner, an American DJ named White Panda, was using the notebook at his home when it started heating and emitting smoke.

In a matter of seconds, the whole thing exploded and burst into flames.

    Here's more on the incident.

  • White Panda detailed the matter on Reddit, claiming that his plugged-in MacBook Pro (2015 model) started spewing smoke while being used normally on Tuesday.

"I quickly placed it on the floor where it popped, the smoke increased, and it caught fire," he said while emphasizing that the toxic smoke from the device filled his entire house "triggering smoke and CO alarms."

  • Due to the fire, White Panda left the machine on the floor and was not injured in any way.

However, he claimed that the exploded machine spoiled the floor of his home, and the situation could have been much worse if he had been on a plane.

The DJ even shared a video of the burnt laptop, capturing a few minutes after the fire.

  • My MacBook Pro exploded today during normal use. No injuries, luckily. Some damage to the house. Could have been worse - good thing I wasn’t on a plane.

  • Enraged by the incident, White Panda took the burnt laptop (after cooling it for an hour) to the nearest Apple Store for assistance.

The representatives of the Cupertino giant have since kept the damaged unit, possibly for examination by product experts, and gave him a five-day window to wait for a possible resolution.

Notably, the company has not commented on the matter.

    Explosion cause still remains unknown
  • Having said that, the exact cause of this explosion, which looks like an isolated incident, still remains unknown.

White Panda has already confirmed that the MacBook was neither repaired by a third-party nor was he using a third-party adapter to charge it.

The best guess is the failure of its lithium-ion battery, but there's no way to be sure right now.
