Meta's smart glasses allegedly leaked user videos to foreign workers
Meta (yep, the Facebook folks) is in hot water over its A.I.-powered smart glasses.
A US lawsuit claims these glasses let sensitive user videos slip out to data workers overseas, including in Kenya, raising big questions about whether Meta is really protecting people's privacy.
Smart glasses were expected to reach 7 million customers in 2025
The suit, filed by Gina Bartone and Mateo Canu, says Meta promised strong privacy features but didn't deliver.
Apparently, footage from the glasses could be seen by foreign annotators, which goes against what users were told.
Even though Meta says it asks for user consent and uses things like facial blurring, there have been some noticeable gaps.
The U.K.'s top privacy watchdog is also looking into it, all while these smart glasses were estimated to reach seven million customers in 2025.
