Microsoft is building a datacenter with 100,000 NVIDIA GPUs

Technology

Microsoft recently announced its Fairwater datacenter, opening in 2024 in Atlanta.
Spanning 315 acres and costing $3.3 billion, it'll pack hundreds of thousands of NVIDIA GB200 GPUs—making it 10 times faster than today's top systems.

Fairwater datacenter will use closed-loop liquid cooling system

Fairwater isn't just huge; it's designed to be smart about resources.
Each rack holds 72 NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs with ultra-fast connections and pooled memory.
Over 90% of the facility will use a closed-loop liquid cooling system to save water and reduce environmental impact.

Fiber-optic network could circle the earth 4 times

The datacenter's fiber-optic network is so extensive it could wrap around Earth four times, enabling near-instant communication between all those GPUs.
It's all about pushing AI forward while keeping sustainability in mind.
