Motorola's iconic RAZR returns with a foldable screen, tempting price

    What's the story

After more than a decade, the iconic Motorola RAZR has returned!

The device revives the class of the once-famous RAZR V3 flip phone but with a completely revamped design and a new Flex View foldable screen.

It's nostalgic, incredibly amazing and is set to go on sale at just $1,500 (way more affordable than Galaxy Fold).

    Here are all the details.

    Design

Revamped clamshell design with classic flip phone feel

The new Motorola RAZR looks similar to the original RAZR V3 but bears a revamped clamshell design, thanks to a Flex View screen that folds completely into half.

The top half of the screen snaps shut seamlessly and lays flat on top of the bottom half; there's no visible gap between them due to the presence of a curved chin at the bottom.

    Displays

Two displays: One inside and the other outside

The main foldable screen of the device is a 6.2-inch OLED HD+ (2142*876 pixels) panel with a 21:9 aspect ratio.

When unfolded, it appears similar to a regular modern-day smartphone display with a small notch on the top.

However, on folding it, you'll get access to a secondary 2.7-inch (600x800 pixels) Quick View display for accessing notifications, music, Google Assistant and other stuff quickly.

    Internals

What do you get under the hood?

Specifications-wise, RAZR offers the capabilities of a decent mid-ranger with Snapdragon 710 SoC processor under the hood.

The chipset has been paired with 6GB of RAM, 128GB storage, and a 2,510mAh battery, which supports 15W fast charging.

All regular connectivity options, including NFC and Bluetooth 5.0, are also present on the phone but you'd have to go for eSIMs instead of physical SIM cards.

    Cameras

    Two cameras for shutterbugs

Motorola RAZR packs two cameras - one 16MP (f/1.7) shooter on the back and another 5MP selfie camera on the notch of the foldable screen.

The selfie camera does the job pretty well, but thanks to the foldable profile, you can also use the 16MP camera for selfies by folding the device and launching the camera from the secondary screen.

    Information

Android 9 optimizations to improve your experience

Motorola RAZR runs Android 9 Pie and offers a Night Vision mode to take high-quality images in low-light. The OS has also been optimized to ensure that whatever you've opened on the smaller screen transitions smoothly to the main screen on unfolding the device.

    Pricing

    Pricing and availability in India

Motorola RAZR has been priced at a tempting $1,500 (roughly Rs. 1,07,400) in the US and will be going on sale starting January 9, 2020.

The Lenovo-owned company has confirmed that the device will be coming to India, but as of now, there are no details about the pricing or availability timeline.

Either way, the $1,500 price makes a pretty neat foldable phone deal.
