NASA's Hubble telescope reveals secrets of interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS

Technology

NASA's Hubble Telescope just got a close-up on comet 3I/ATLAS, a rare visitor from outside our solar system.
Spotted in July 2025, this speedy comet is flying by at 220480km per hour and will swing closest to Earth in December before heading back into deep space.

What makes this comet special?

Both Hubble and ESA's JUICE mission recently tracked the comet after it zipped past the Sun and became active.
Good news: it won't come anywhere near us—its closest approach on December 19 will still be about 170 million miles away.
If you're curious, you can spot it with a small telescope until spring 2026 using NASA's tracking tools.
