Netflix drops casting on new devices—here's what's changing
Technology
Netflix has officially stopped supporting casting from your phone to newer devices like Google TV and Chromecast, starting November 10, 2025.
Now, if you want to watch Netflix on these gadgets, you'll need to use the built-in app instead of the Cast button.
It's part of a bigger shift in streaming, with platforms pushing users toward full-featured apps over simple casting.
You'll need your remote for Netflix now
The missing Cast button was first spotted by Reddit users and later confirmed by Netflix.
No matter which plan you're on—including ad-supported or Premium—you'll have to navigate Netflix using your device's remote from now on.
Interestingly, Disney+ and Prime Video still let you cast, so this seems like a move by Netflix to get everyone using their app directly.
