OnePlus 7T v/s ASUS ROG Phone 2: Which is better?
  • As part of its bi-annual launch tradition, OnePlus has introduced the OnePlus 7T as a solid upgrade to the 5-month-old OnePlus 7.

The handset arrives with a new high-quality display, upgraded cameras, and the flagship Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset. Interestingly, the top-tier internals and snappy fast performance make the OnePlus 7T take on the spec-monster ASUS ROG Phone 2.

    So, which one is better?

  • At a glance

    Design

  • The ROG Phone 2 sports a notch-free rectangular design with slim yet noticeable top and bottom bezels. On the rear, the metallic chassis houses horizontally-aligned dual cameras and a customizable LED logo.

In comparison, the OnePlus 7T retains the look of the OnePlus 7 but with a slightly smaller notch and a dual-tone frosted matte glass body.

Winner: OnePlus 7T for its premium-looking design.

    All about the screen

    All about the screen
  • The ROG Phone 2 sports a 6.59-inch full-HD+ AMOLED screen with 10-bit HDR support. The display also gets a segment-leading 120Hz refresh rate and a touch-latency of 49ms - the lowest ever on any smartphone (as per ASUS).

On the other hand, the OnePlus 7T competes with a new HDR10+ certified 6.55-inch full-HD+ AMOLED screen with 90Hz refresh rate.

    Winner: ASUS ROG Phone 2.

  • For photographers turned gamers or vice versa, the ROG Phone 2 offers a dual rear camera with a 48MP (f/1.8) primary sensor and 13MP (f/2.4) ultra-wide-angle sensor.

On the OnePlus 7T, you get nearly the same camera setup we saw on the OnePlus 7 Pro featuring a 48MP (f/1.6) primary sensor, a 12MP (f/2.2) telephoto sensor, and a 16MP ultra-wide-angle lens.

    Winner: OnePlus 7T.

  • Information

    For the selfie lovers

  • To up your selfie game, the ROG Phone 2 packs a solid 24MP selfie shooter with f/2.2 aperture and support for 1080p (at 30fps) recording. The OnePlus 7T, on the other hand, retains the same 16MP (f/2.0) front-facing camera we saw on the OnePlus 7.

    Under the hood

  • The ASUS ROG Phone 2 gets the Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset, coupled with upto 12GB RAM and 256GB/512GB of storage. There is also a vapor chamber cooling system for thermal management.

In comparison, the OnePlus 7T offers the same flagship chipset as ROG Phone 2 combined with 8GB RAM, 12GB/256GB of UFS 3.0 storage, and a new graphite heat sync pipe.

The ASUS flagship packs a mighty 6,000mAh battery with Quick Charge 4.0 fast-charging support, dual USB Type-C ports, a headphone jack, and in-screen fingerprint reader.

    Winner: ROG Phone 2.

    Pricing: The key factor

  • The ASUS ROG Phone 2 starts at Rs. 37,999 for the entry-level 8GB/128GB configuration and goes up to Rs. 59,999 for the maxed-out 12GB/512GB model. In comparison, the OnePlus 7T costs Rs. 37,999 for the 8GB/128GB model and Rs. 39,999 for the 8GB/256GB variant.

  • Our verdict

    How things stack up?
  • If you're into hardcore gaming and need nothing but the best, the ASUS ROG Phone 2 is a no brainer. It is tailor-made for gaming and that's evident by the 120Hz HDR OLED display, upto 12GB RAM, 6,000mAh battery and a 2.9GHz processor.

However, if you're looking for a great flagship performer that can meet all your smartphone needs, just buy the OnePlus 7T.
