PM Modi launches Skyroot's Vikram-I rocket: India's private space leap
Prime Minister Modi just unveiled the Vikram-I rocket at Skyroot Aerospace's new campus in Hyderabad.
This all-carbon composite rocket is now "launch-ready" and set for liftoff between February and March 2026 from Sriharikota.
With the ability to carry small satellites (up to 350kg) into orbit, and launch within 24 hours of reaching the pad, it's a big step for India's private space sector.
What makes Vikram-I special?
Vikram-I stands 20 meters tall, uses a four-stage design with both solid and liquid fuel engines (including some cool 3D-printed parts), and its carbon composite body means it's lighter and faster to build—assembly takes just three days.
This rapid turnaround is a huge plus for customers who want their satellites in space, fast.
What's next for Skyroot?
Skyroot wants to roll out one orbital rocket every month from its massive Infinity Campus.
Backed by over ₹1,000 crore in fresh investment, they're already working on Vikram-II, an upgraded version capable of carrying heavier payloads to higher orbits, is under development.
If you're into space or startups, this is definitely one to watch!
