Redmi 8 launched in India, price starts at Rs. 7,999

After a bunch of teasers and leaks, Chinese tech giant Xiaomi has launched the Redmi 8 in India. Starting at Rs. 7,999, the handset will be up for grabs via Mi.com, Mi Stores, and Flipkart starting October 12. The budget-friendly phone comes with a waterdrop notched design, dual rear cameras, physical fingerprint scanner, and entry-level internals. Here's our roundup.

Design and display
At a glance

The Redmi 8 sports a familiar waterdrop notched design with a noticeable bottom bezel. On the rear, the gradient finished polycarbonate panel houses dual cameras and a physical fingerprint scanner. The handset sports a 6.22-inch LCD display with an HD+ (720x1520 pixels) resolution, 19:9 aspect ratio, and Gorilla Glass 5 protection.

Cameras
For the shutterbugs and selfie lovers

The dual rear camera unit on the Redmi 8 comprises a 12MP (f/1.8) primary sensor and a 2MP secondary sensor to capture depth information. The main camera offers AI-based photography features like AI Portrait as well as AI Scene Detection and supports 1080p video recording at upto 60fps. Up front, the phone sports an 8MP (f/2.0) snapper for selfies, video calling, and face unlock.

Internals
Here's a look at the internals

The Redmi 8 is powered by Snapdragon 439 processor, coupled with upto 4GB RAM and upto 64GB of storage. Under the hood, it runs Android Pie-based MIUI 10 and packs a 5,000mAh battery with 18W fast-charging support (10W charger in box). In addition, it offers all standard connectivity options including dual-SIMs (Nano), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, Type-C port, wireless FM radio, and headphone jack.

Information
And, what is the pricing?

As for the pocket pinch, the Redmi 8 costs Rs. 7,999 for the entry-level 3GB/32GB model and Rs. 8,999 for 4GB/64GB variant. At this price point, it goes up against rivals like Realme 5, Samsung Galaxy M10s, and Vivo U10.
