Solar firm accuses Google of AI-Driven defamation
Wolf River Electric, a Minnesota solar company, is taking Google to court after Google's AI Overviews feature wrongly claimed the company was being sued by the state Attorney General for shady sales tactics.
Wolf River says these false search results led to customers canceling big contracts and hurt their reputation.
They're now asking for up to $210 million in damages.
Wolf River's claims and Google's response
According to Wolf River, Google's AI mixed them up with other companies facing lawsuits, spreading untrue claims about hidden fees and misleading deals.
The company's lawyer, Nicholas Kasprowicz, called this case a stand for "truth and accountability" in the age of AI.
Google admits there was an error but denies defamation.
This lawsuit could potentially set new rules on who's responsible when AI gets things wrong online—something that matters for anyone using or building tech today.
