Microsoft launches two variants of 2-in-1 Surface Book 2 laptop
Microsoft finally unveiled Surface Book 2, the long-awaited second-generation of 2-in-1 laptop-tablet hybrid 13.5-inch Surface Book. Surface Book 2 has revamped interiors, new processors, graphics cards, sturdier hinge, some design tweaks, and comes in a 15-inch variant. Surface Book 2 laptops come with latest hardware specs
Both the 13.5-inch and 15-inch Surface Book 2 convertible laptops come in the storage options of 256GB, 512GB or 1TB. Some of the common specs on both the models include 5MP front and 8MP rear cameras, Dolby Atmos support for headphones, two USB-A ports, one USB-C port, Surface connect, SD card slot, headphone jack, backlit keyboard, Bluetooth 4.1, and Windows Hello login support.
Surface Book 2 beats primary competitor Apple MacBook: Microsoft
The displays of the Surface Book 2 laptops can be used as standalone tablets by detaching them from the keyboard. The tablets house a battery component. Microsoft claims the laptops can get 17-hour battery life, while the tablets get five hours, compared to Apple MacBook Pro's 10-hour battery. Apart from the improved battery life, Microsoft says its laptops beat Apple in many categories.
Both the models come with bundled stylus
Similar to the predecessor, the Surface Book 2 laptops also come with a bundled stylus. Users can purchase the Surface Dial separately. Microsoft has updated and strengthened the hinge on both the variants to make it sturdier and less space occupying.
13.5-in Surface Book 2 houses new Nvidia graphics card
The 13.5-inch variant sports a 3000 x 2000 pixel display giving a 267 PPI pixel density. Its base model has seventh-generation Intel Core i5 7300U processor with 8GB RAM while the upgraded version offers eighth-generation Intel Core i7 8650U processor with 16GB RAM. It has Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 with 2GB graphics memory. The base model weighs 1.5kg and the high-end variant around 1.64kg.
The most powerful Surface laptop ever
The 15-inch Surface Book 2 laptop has a 3240 x 2160 pixel display with a 260 PPI pixel density. It sports the high-end eighth-generation Intel Core i7 8650U quad-core processor and 16GB of RAM. It houses Nvidia GTX 1060 graphics cards with 6GB of VRAM. The hybrid laptop weighs around 1.9kg and only 0.81kg in the standalone tablet mode.
