Tamil Nadu to host ISRO's new rocket launch site by 2027

Technology

ISRO is all set to start launching rockets from a brand-new spaceport in Kulasekarapattinam, Tamil Nadu, by 2027.
This site will focus on sending small satellites into orbit and is on track to open in early 2027, according to ISRO Chairman V Narayanan.

What else is happening?

The new spaceport boosts India's ability to launch more satellites. Meanwhile, ISRO's Gaganyaan mission—aiming to send astronauts into space—is also moving forward.
Before any crewed flights, three uncrewed rockets will be launched for safety checks using a Crew Escape System that's already passed over 8,000 tests.
Looking ahead, ISRO plans to establish a space station before 2035, with the first module to be launched in 2028.
