TikTok now lets you organize content with your friends
What's the story
TikTok has launched a new feature called "Shared Collections," allowing users to share and organize content with their friends and family. The move comes after the successful introduction of individual Collections earlier this year, which let the users save content in custom folders. With Shared Collections, users can create spaces for various purposes like holiday-dinner ideas with their loved ones.
Feature details
A tool for organizing TikTok content
The new feature also allows users to organize decor inspiration or Secret Santa ideas. "Whether it's content from their favorite creators, inspiration for a home design project, or a new skill they're learning together, Shared Collection makes it easy for people to stay organized as they discover and save on TikTok," the company explained in a blog post.
User requirements
A feature for mutual followers
To create a Shared Collection, both users need to follow each other. The collections can be kept private or made public. The global rollout of Shared Collections is for accounts of users over the age of 16. This way, TikTok ensures that only those who are comfortable sharing content with each other can do so through this new feature.
Future plans
TikTok teases upcoming 'Shared Feeds' feature
Along with Shared Collections, TikTok also teased its upcoming "Shared Feeds" feature. This will let users watch content together via a shared interest-based feed. The company sees it as a way for users to discover new content together. Users can create the Shared Feeds in one-on-one direct messages, which will surface new content tailored to their tastes and favorite creators based on their activity on the platform.
Content curation
A daily dose of curated content
The Shared Feeds feature isn't continuous, with users finding a selection of 15 videos in their feed each day. This is similar to Instagram Reels's Blend feature, which lets you generate a personalized reels feed for you and your friends. Users can create a Shared Feed by sending an invite to another user, who can then accept it and start creating their own feed together.
