Tinder implements facial recognition for California users
Tinder is making Face Check—a facial recognition system—mandatory for all new users in California from June 30, 2025.
The goal? Make dating safer and cut down on fake profiles.
How Face Check works
To sign up, you'll need to record a quick video selfie. This checks if your face matches your profile pics and makes sure you're not running multiple accounts.
Once you're verified, you get a "Photo Verified" badge.
Tinder deletes the video but keeps an encrypted face map to spot duplicates later.
More on the tech behind Face Check
Face Check builds on Tinder's existing ID verification (which uses government IDs) by adding live selfie tech.
This helps keep bots and repeat fakes off the app, aiming for a more authentic experience.
Tinder tested this feature in Colombia and Canada
Tinder has already rolled out Face Check in Colombia and Canada, so California is next in line as part of their push for safer, more genuine connections.
