WhatsApp tests address book photos in chats via TestFlight
Technology
WhatsApp is testing a handy new feature: if someone in your chats hasn't set a profile picture, you'll now see the photo you've saved for them in your phone's address book instead.
Right now, only a few iOS beta users have access through TestFlight, but it's all about making it easier to spot who's messaging you.
WhatsApp shows local photos only
This update only changes how contacts appear on your device. It doesn't touch their actual WhatsApp profile pic.
You'll need to give WhatsApp permission to access your contact images for this to work.
Even if someone has strict privacy settings like "Nobody" or "My contacts except," you'll still see the photo saved in your phone.
The feature is expected to roll out more widely once Meta gives the green light.
