Windows 11 will soon make your laptop feel more interactive

Technology

Microsoft is preparing a new "Haptic Signals" feature for Windows 11, found in recent preview builds, that will let compatible trackpads give you gentle vibrations when you snap windows or drag files between them.
It's designed to make using your laptop feel more interactive—kind of like the haptic feedback you get on high-end phones.

How to enable haptic feedback

You'll find "Haptic Signals" as a toggle in the Settings app, with a slider to control how strong the feedback feels—or turn it off if you want.
The feature will work on devices like Surface Laptop 7 and Surface Laptop Studio that have haptic trackpads.
While it's not live yet, its appearance in preview builds means it's coming soon.

Bringing Windows experience on par with Mac

This kind of tactile feedback has been standard on Apple MacBooks and premium smartphones for years, but Windows laptops haven't had it natively until now, with Microsoft preparing to introduce it.
Microsoft's move helps close that gap, aiming to make everyday tasks on Windows feel smoother and more satisfying.
