'My grandfather was..': Dhruv Jurel on his Colombo century celebrations
What's the story
Indian batter Dhruv Jurel celebrated his second Test century with a special tattoo reveal. The 24-year-old, who scored an unbeaten 115 against Sri Lanka on Day 2 of the second Test in Colombo, unveiled a "Jai Jawan, Jai Kisaan" tattoo on his left bicep. The celebration came after a tense moment when he was on 99 and narrowly avoided a run-out before reaching the milestone with a full dive.
Tribute
Tribute to his roots
The tattoo, which translates to "Hail the soldier, hail the farmer," is a tribute to Jurel's roots.
"My grandfather was a farmer and my father a soldier. I don't want to forget my roots and that celebration was for them," he said after his memorable knock.
The wicketkeeper-batter also revealed that he always asks senior teammate Rishabh Pant for advice in different situations during their innings together.
"Pant is a terrific player. I always ask him what I should do in different situations," Jurel added.
Match details
A patient hand from Jurel
Jurel's innings spanned 177 balls, during which he remained largely risk-free.
His most important partnership was with Rishabh Pant, adding 112 runs for the seventh wicket.
Despite being hit on the right shoulder, Pant battled through another difficult period before scoring 63 runs.
Jurel reached his century after rain interrupted his progress at 95, and once he crossed the landmark, he accelerated.
India captain Shubman Gill declared on 503/9.
Humility
'Start on 0 tomorrow'
Despite the satisfaction of reaching three figures, Jurel was quick to keep his achievement in perspective.
"When you represent India, there are butterflies. I scored 100 today but start on zero tomorrow," he added.
His innings helped India recover from a precarious position of 307 for six to post a commanding total of 503 for nine declared against Sri Lanka in the ongoing Test series.

Jurel's journey has been impressive, scoring 651 runs at an average of 40.68 across 12 Test matches, as per Cricinfo..
He has two fifties to his name and scored his maiden Test century against West Indies last year.
Interestingly, both his 50-plus scores in away-from-home Tests have come in this series.
After Hardik Pandya (108 at Pallekele in 2017), he became just the second Indian batter to score a Test century from No. 7 or lower in Sri Lanka.
