    What's the story

    Sri Lanka pacer Asitha Fernando was the pick of the bowlers for his side in the first Test against England in Manchester.

    Fernando picked up four wickets as England finished their first innings on 358 after Sri Lanka scored 236.

    England resumed Day 3 on 259/6 and managed another 99 runs. Fernando, who took three wickets on Thursday, picked one more on Friday.

    Fernando dismissed Ben Duckett early on, trapping the southpaw leg before wicket.

    A back of a length delivery saw Ollie Pope get dismissed in the 9th over.

    Joe Root then went for a drive to be caught out. Fernando broke an important stand.

    Fernando bowled 14 overs for his three scalps (68 runs).

    On Day 3, he removed Mark Wood to complete a four-fer.

    Fernando races to 49 Test scalps

    Fernando bowled 18 overs versus England and conceded 103 runs. He was expensive with an economy rate of 5.70. He conceded 35 runs from four overs on Day 3.

    In 15 matches, Fernando has raced to 49 wickets at 26.53. He is one shy of 50 Test scalps.

    Versus England, the bowler owns six scalps from three matches at 29.66.
