What's the story

The Indian cricket team beat hosts Australia in the first Test in Adelaide to take a 1-0 lead in the four-match series. India had set a target of 323 runs for the Aussies, who were 104/4 at stumps on day four. On Monday, India completed the job despite strong resistance from Shaun Marsh (60) and skipper Tim Paine (41). Here are the records broken.

Pant takes 11 catches in Adelaide Test, surpasses Wriddhiman Saha

With India winning, this is the first ever Test victory by an Asian team on Australia soil since 2009. Rishabh Pant, who accounted for six catches in the first innings, took another five in the second. He now has the most catches by an Indian keepers in a Test match (11). Marcus Harris scored identical runs in each innings (26) on Test debut.

Lyon joins a host of legends after bagging five-for

Nathan Lyon picked 6/122 in the second innings against India. This was the Aussie spinner's sixth five-for against India. He joined the likes of Ian Botham, Malcolm Marshall and Imran Khan. Lyon needs another five-for to equal Muttiah Muralitharan. The spinner took a total of 8 wickets in the Test match.

Pujara in a league of his own

Cheteshwar Pujara smashed 123 runs in the first innings. This was his 16th career Test ton and a first in Australia. The innings also saw Pujara surpassing the 5,000-run mark in Test cricket. He became the 12th Indian to get past this mark. Pujara scored 71 more runs in the second innings and needs 150 runs to go past legend Kapil Dev (5,248 runs).

Kohli registers his 25th Test victory as Indian skipper

Virat Kohli registered his 25th Test victory as a captain. Kohli has 15 wins at home and 10 away. He needs another three more wins to surpass MS Dhoni. India's most successful captain MS Dhoni has 27 Test wins. He needs 2 more overseas wins to become the most successful Indian skipper away from home. Sourav Ganguly had 11.
