BCCI announces schedule for New Zealand's tour

The BCCI announced the schedule for the upcoming New Zealand series in a rather unusual way. Indian players took twitter to name the matches, one at a time. New Zealand will play three test matches and five-ODIs, with the first test beginning on September 22 in Kanpur. No T-20 matches have been scheduled during the tour.

    India-New Zealand rivalry

India and New Zealand faced each other for the first time in a test match on 19 November 1955 at Fateh Maidan, Hyderabad. The match ended in a draw. Out of the 54 test matches played till now, India won 18 times and New Zealand 10 times. India has won 46 of the total 93 ODI matches played till now. New Zealand won 41.

    More wickets than runs

India's Bhagwat Chandrashekhar held the record for scoring fewer runs in test career than the number of wickets taken. He took 242 wickets, scoring 177 runs. Chris Martin of New Zealand broke the record with 233 wickets and 123 runs.

Schedule for test matches and ODIs

The host will face New Zealand in the first test match at Green Park stadium in Kanpur from September 22. The second test match will be held from September 30 at Kolkata's Eden Gardens and Indore's Holkar stadium will host the third and final test match from October 8. The five ODIs are scheduled on October 16th, 19th, 23rd, 26th and 29th.

First for the coach, the captain and the stadium

This will be the first home series for the newly appointed coach of the Indian team, Anil Kumble, who takes charge before Indian team leaves for West Indies next month. Virat Kohli will lead the Indian test squad in his maiden series against New Zealand as a captain. Indore's Holkar stadium will be hosting its maiden Test match.
