    What's the story

Champions League never fails to disappoint, and the match-day 1 of this edition has proved to be thrilling to say the very least.

Barcelona, United, Real, and Bayern won their first matches as the second match-day would be looked forward to in anticipation of the many wonders to come.

Here we pick the team of the week, using a 4-3-3 formation.

    Defense

    Who were the best defenders?

Marcelo was consistent as usual, playing his role of fullback to perfection and creating numerous chances for Real Madrid.

Ramos has been consistently displaying his power in the defense, and his performance against Roma makes him a clear favorite.

Degenek of Belgrade was impressive as well.

Szczesny should be the goal-keeper and Atletico's Gimenez should also feature for scoring the winner.

    Mid-fielders

The mid-fielders who should feature in the team

Modric displayed his class on the first day of UCL 2018-19, providing some amazing through balls and creating chances to score.

Paul Pogba, almost, single-handedly won United their match against Young Boys, scoring two goals and assisting one.

Fekir, the young player from Lyon surprised everyone with his two amazing goals against Manchester City.

    Forwards

    The attacking line-up

Messi, Icardi, and Gareth Bale were the most impressive forwards and will be making up the attacking line-up.

Icardi was at his best, scoring a goal and making life difficult for the opposition defenders.

For Messi, it was another record breaking day, and his inclusion cannot be questioned.

He scored the first Champions League goal of the season and also his eighth UCL hat-trick.
