The Spanish club were held by Bayern 2-2 on the night at the Santiago Bernabeu, but that was enough for Zinedine Zidane's men to progress. Karim Benzema scored twice for Real. This was Real's 16th UEFA Champions League finale progression which makes them far ahead than the rest. This was also the third occasion when these two sides met in the semis since 2011-12, with Real winning on all three occasions. Real Madrid remain unbeaten against Bayern in 7 consecutive UCL games. Real will be eyeing a third consecutive UCL trophy.
Zidane on a different level
Real Madrid have never been knocked out in the UCL under Zinedine Zidane. Los Blancos have progressed in all nine of their two-legged UCL ties. The Frenchman is also the first manager, since 1998, to reach three consecutive UCL finals, winning twice already. Marcello Lippi had reached three finals between 1996 and 1998.
