One of those names the modern game of cricket has become synonymous with, Christopher Henry Gayle is unquestionably one of the hardest hitters of the cricket ball. A Jamaican by nationality, Gayle plays for the West Indies cricket team. After a slow start to his international cricketing career, he took the world by storm in 2002 when he became only the third West Indian to score 1,000 runs in a calendar year. A left-handed batsman and a right-handed bowler (off-break), Gayle is most famous for his exploits in the shorter formats of the game. He is the highest scorer for the West Indies in ODIs and is the only batsman to score a triple century in Tests, a double century in ODIs, and a century in Twenty20 Internationals. In Twenty20 cricket, both international and league, Gayle's achievements are unparalleled. He holds the records for the second-highest runs in an innings, third-most sixes hit, and the fastest player to reach 1,000 runs, among others in Twenty20 Internationals.
