A Barbadian with a high backlift and powerful pickup shots, former West Indies cricketer Dwayne Smith made his international debut in a Test match against South Africa in 2004. In the second innings of that match, he scored a century and became only the 11th West Indian to score a century on debut. What was even impressive about that knock was that it was made in 93 balls, and it was Smith's second first-class century. An all-rounder who gave the impression of bringing back the Calypso to West Indian cricket, Smith soon faded away after his debut Test against South Africa. He played his last Test in 2006. In 2007, he was dropped from the ODI team as well due to a lack of contribution with both bat and ball. However, Smith made a comeback after his performances in T20 leagues around the world. His all-around game satisfied the requirements of T20. One of the best hitters of the ball when in form, he was also able to surprise the batsmen with his pace variations. Add to that his athletic ability, Smith was a quintessential T20 player. In 2017, he retired from international cricket.
