There was a time when leg spinners were not welcome in T20s. At least until a long-haired, roaring Pakistani leg spinner who played for South Africa came into the picture. His celebration run that was longer than the run-up of many fast bowlers showed the passion he had for the game. Imran Tahir was his name, and according to Ish Sodhi of New Zealand, if leg spinners had a WhatsApp group, Tahir will be the president. Born in Pakistan, Tahir played for the Pakistan U-19 team and even Pakistan A team. However, he wasn't able to make it to the senior team. When he finally made his international debut in 2011, it was for South Africa against West Indies in an ODI. A leg spinner who uses his googlies more than often, Tahir made leg spinner fashionable in the T20s. It was his pace, variations, and constant attacking of the stumps that provided future leg spinners with a blueprint on how to be successful in T20s. Tahir announced his retirement from international cricket in 2019. In the 2019 Indian Premier League (IPL), he finished the tournament with the most wickets.
