India beat Windies in 3rd ODI: Here're the records broken

The Indian cricket team beat West Indies in a rain-hit match to clinch the ODI series 2-0. With this victory, India completed the double over WI after winning the T20Is 3-0. Batting first, Windies suffered a collapse to post 240/7 in a reduced 35 overs. India chased down the target after Virat Kohli slammed 114*. Here are the records that were broken.

Kohli smashes a host of records

Kohli registered his 43rd career ODI century. He needs just seven more to surpass Sachin Tendulkar (49) for the most ODI tons in cricket. The 30-year-old also went past the 11,500-run mark in ODIs (11,520). Kohli also registered his ninth ODI century versus WI. He equaled Tendulkar's record for the most tons against a single nation. Tendulkar had amassed nine tons versus Australia.

Kohli leads the show in 2019

Kohli also amassed his 19th score of fifty-plus against the Windies in ODI cricket. He equaled his tally of 19 against Sri Lanka. Kohli is now the highest run-scorer in ODIs this year (1,288). This was his fifth ODI ton in 2019. He is one short of Rohit Sharma's tally (6). Kohli now has 123 ODI fours in 2019. He surpassed Rohit (115).

Contrasting numbers for Iyer and Pant

India's middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer slammed his second successive ODI fifty. This was his fourth career ODI fifty. Rishabh Pant's struggles in ODI cricket continued as his average of 22.90 tells one the story. The wicket-keeper batsman managed a first-ball duck.

Gayle smashes 54th career ODI fifty

Veteran Chris Gayle (72) slammed his 54th career ODI fifty. Gayle extended his sixes tally in ODIs to 331. He smashed eight fours and five sixes in a 41-ball knock. Gayle amassed a total of 56 ODI sixes in 2019. This is the second-best tally after AB de Villiers' 58 sixes in 2015.

How did the match pan out?

West Indies got off to a flier with Gayle and Evin Lewis scoring 100-plus runs in 10 overs. Both these players fell in quick succession. Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer added a 50-run stand, but from there on Windies lost wickets at regular intervals. In reply, India were set a target of 255 from 35 overs (DLS method). Kohli's sparkling century got India home.
