#INDvsSA 1st ODI: India defeat SA, here are records broken

Virat Kohli and company started their ODI-series in style with a commanding victory against South Africa in the opening fixture at Durban. The captain of Team India, Virat Kohli stood tall to chase down South Africa's target of 270 runs and secure a 6 wicket victory in the 1st of 6 ODIs . Here are the records that were broken in this high-octane encounter.

    Kohli scores his 33rd ODI-ton

Indian skipper, Virat Kohli scored his 33rd ODI century. The right-handed batsman scored it off 105 balls to lead India to their first victory against South Africa at Kingsmead, Durban. With this century, Kohli has scored at least one century in all the countries he has played ODIs in. Kohli hasn't played any ODI in Pakistan yet.

    India's deadly spin duo shine

Despite South African pitches not being known to assist spinners, Indian wrist spinning duo, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal were India's best performers in Durban. Chahal picked 2 wickets for 45 in 10 overs and Kuldeep bagged 3 for 34 in his quota. Rest of the Indian bowlers picked up 2 wickets and conceded runs at 6.33 per over.

    South Africa's middle-order collapse

South Africa scored 39 runs for the loss of 3 wickets between the 21st and 30th over. They had scored 99 for the loss of two wickets in the first 20 overs.

Faf du Plessis scores 9th ODI hundred

South Africa's captain, du Plessis slammed his 9th ODI century today; coincidentally he had also scored a century on 1st February, 2017. Faf Du Plessis and all-rounder Chris Morris steadied the ship for South Africa after they lost 3 wickets in a span of 8 overs. The 74-run partnership for the sixth wicket was scored at a run rate of 5.76.

Proteas are "almost" invincible on home soil

South Africa have been a difficult side to beat on home turf in ODIs. Before this fixture, the Proteas had remained unbeaten in 17 consecutive ODIs at home. Their last defeat, before this one, had come against England in February 2016.

Team India breaks the Durban jinx

Durban had been unlucky for the men in blue. Before this match, India's average margin of defeat in the last 3 ODIs was 142 runs. India lost by 134 runs in 2013, 135 runs in 2011 and 157 runs in 2006. This is India's first victory in Durban, whereas South Africa had won their last 5 ODIs here.

    Rohit's woes in South Africa

Indian opener, Rohit Sharma has an average of 13.25 in the backyard of the Proteas. This is the right-handed batsman's lowest average in any nation, where he has played 2 or more innings. Rohit has scored 11, 9, 23, 1, 5, 18, 19, 20 in his 8 innings in South Africa.

Morkel has been the thorn in the flesh

Rohit Sharma has been dismissed 4 times by Morne Morkel in SA in ODIs. In the 5 innings, Rohit has managed to score just 21 runs off 52 balls and has scored just one boundary off Morkel.
