Milestones achieved by India during tour of South Africa

India's tour of South Africa has been record-breaking. Virat Kohli and his men achieved amazing feats in the backyard of the Proteas. From mind-blowing bowling performances to breathtaking batting displays from the Indian skipper, the tour had it all. Here is our complete list of the records that this Indian side broke during the tour.

India clinch their first ODI series in South Africa

The men in blue won 5 ODIs on this tour to clinch the series 5-1. This is India's first ODI series triumph on South African soil. Interestingly, before this tour, India had won only 5 ODIs against Proteas in South Africa since 1992. Dhawan joined the elite list of cricketers who have scored a century in their 100th ODI.

India remain unbeaten at the Wanderers stadium in Tests

India lost the first two Test matches of the series. However, they bounced back in the third Test in Johannesburg, to end the Test series 1-2. This victory means that India remain unbeaten at the Wanderers Stadium in Test cricket. In this tour, Kohli became the 4th fastest player to hit 21 Test hundreds, reaching the landmark in 109 innings.

Kohli's love affair with ODI tons

Indian skipper, Virat Kohli joined the elite list of players to score a century in every country he has played in. Virat scored 4 centuries on this tour of South Africa, one in the Tests and 3 in the ODIs. Virat Kohli has not only been breaking records with the bat, the 29-year-old also completed a century of catches in ODI cricket.

India didn't just tame SA but they snatch top rank

India not only kept South Africa at bay and retained their number 1 rank in Test cricket, but they also dethroned South Africa to claim the number one ODI spot.

    Can anybody stop Virat Kohli?

Virat Kohli now has 56 international hundreds, 21 in Tests and 35 in ODIs, which is the 5th most in the all-time list. Kohli is the first batsman to cross the 500-run mark in a bilateral 50-over series, scoring 558 runs. Virat Kohli also became the fastest cricketer to score 17,000 runs in international cricket, eclipsing South Africa's Hashim Amla's record.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar's stock is only rising

Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who was named the player of the series in T20Is, carved a piece of history for himself. He became the first Indian cricketer to take a 5 wicket haul across all three formats of the game. Bhuvi also bagged 7 wickets in the T20Is, which is the most in a bilateral T20I series by an Indian pacer.

Records tumble when Kohli is ready to rumble

Indian skipper Virat Kohli surpassed his predecessor MS Dhoni's tally of 3,454 runs as India's captain in Tests. Kohli has scored 3,456 runs in Tests as the Indian captain. Kohli also surpassed Sachin Tendulkar as India's top scorer in a three-match Test series in South Africa. Kohli scored 286 runs, whereas, Sachin mustered 241 on the 1996-97 tour.

Kuldeep & Chahal are India's new spin kings

It's not often that you hear spinners have dominated a tour in South Africa. Indian spinners had a successful tour with Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal bagging 33 wickets in the ODI series, which is the most by Indian spinners in a bilateral series. The previous best was 27 against England at home in 2006.

Who said spinners are worthless in South Africa?

Kuldeep Yadav's 17 wickets and Yuzvendra Chahal's 16 wickets in the ODI series broke the record for the most wickets by an overseas spinner in an ODI bilateral series on South African soil. The previous record was held by West Indies all-rounder Keith Arthurton, who took 12 wickets across seven ODIs during the 1998-99 season.
